Applying for a student loan with Smart-Pig is quick and easy, simply check if you’re eligible below and then fill out the five-minute application online. We don’t accept applications by post or phone.
Who can apply for a quick student loan with Smart-Pig?
If you’re studying at a college or university in the UK and are in receipt of government finance in the form of a Student Loan, NHS Bursary or SAAS Award then you can apply for a quick student loan today.
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a resident of the United Kingdom
- Have a valid UK bank account and debit card
- Not be in an insolvency arrangement such as bankruptcy or an IVA
How to apply for a Smart-Pig loan
Step 1 – Fill out the application form & submit
Applying for a loan for students with Smart-Pig is simple and takes about five minutes. Using the loan calculator on the Smart-Pig homepage, fill in the date you will receive your next student loan payment; you should be able to get this date from your finance document. If you don’t know it, use the first day of next term. You don't need to set the repayment date to the same day as your student loan payment – it can be earlier, which could save you on interest.
Choose your loan amount and repayment date, then click apply now. Follow the simple steps to create an account and complete your application.
You will need:
- A valid email address
- Your bank and debit card details
- A working mobile phone
- To agree to a credit check
- Information about your student finance, NHS Bursary or SAAS loan. You can get this quickly and easily online with just a few clicks following our guides:

Step 2 – Respond if the team get in touch
Once your application is submitted, we’ll check that your details are correct and student loan information. We'll assess the loan’s affordability using the information provided in your application alongside with details in your credit report. To process your application, we might need some additional information from you. If we do, we'll request this via email.
Keep an eye on your emails and respond as quickly as possible with the information requested to avoid delays.
Step 3 – Receive money into your account
If the application has been approved, you will receive the money into your account the same day, usually within minutes of approval.
How to top up your loan
We will set you an affordable limit based on what you can responsibly afford to repay up to £350. If you’ve borrowed less than your limit, you can top up to the limit at any time in My Account.
How to extend your loan
If you chose a date to repay that was earlier than your student finance payment was due to arrive, then you can move the date up to two times in My Account. You can only extend until the date your student finance is due. The 10-day grace period still applies regardless of if you extend your loan or not.
How to repay your loan
At 7am on your loan due date, we’ll collect your payment from your debit card you authorised during the application process for the full amount due. If this isn’t successful, we’ll make another attempt at 7am two days later.
If you want to make a payment early, or the scheduled payment hasn’t gone though, there are two ways to repay your Smart-Pig loan:
By Debit Card
Log into My Account online, where you can make full or partial payments towards your loan balance at any time. You can upload a new debit card or cancel your current card in the “Banking” area.
You can also call us during office hours to make a debit card payment over the phone.
By Bank Transfer
Please send your payment to:
